A Journal

Week 1: The Genesis
Welcome to the Entrepreneurial Discovery Diaries, a space where the journey of entrepreneurship unfolds in the form of a journal. Here I will navigate the uncharted waters of business exploration, documenting the highs, lows, and everything in between. This journal will serve as a place to share and document what I have learned, and where I am in my journey to finding my purpose. My goal is to have this journal lead me to a genesis – the birth of a dream.
This is it. The genesis. The beginning of my journey in figuring out what I want to do. I have been searching for a spark to ignite my brain and heart into knowing what I am to do. I have felt that most of the problem has been that I lack the skills and the knowledge to find which direction to go. I don't know how to navigate the uncharted territories of entrepreneurship. This is the problem. In enrolling in BUS:110 at BYU-I, I am hopeful that I can be sent in the right direction at last. I love ideas and am always full of positivity, so I know this is where I need to start.
In his first week, there was a lot of information provided. I do wish I had taken more notes. The information ranged from spiritual guidance for an entrepreneur to finding the courage to make the first steps and believing in yourself to become an entrepreneurial hero. Statements such as "living a life of meaning is living a life with intent" from Living a Life as an Entrepreneurial Hero and "Now be faithful. Be true. Go forward. Be ambitious. Don’t short circuits yourself. Don’t stop now. Keep going. Keep going. Educate your minds. And your spirits and never lose sight of the fact that you’re a child of God with a divine destiny and capable of doing great and good and wonderful things." from Gordon B. Hinkley especially stood out to me. I am learning that success isn't always about making money but about doing what you love. This idea that all humans are entrepreneurs, in that we are built to find solutions to problems and find a way is fascinating to me. I learned that taking risks as an entrepreneur is a good thing, and gets a bad rap, but in reality, it is what can drive innovation. Overall, it was really great and just what I needed to start.
As I lay the foundation for this entrepreneurial odyssey, the genesis marks the beginning of a journey. One that I have been desiring to go on for a long time but never had the right tools. Did I have any "ah-ha" moments where a great business idea hit me this week? No. But I can feel the stirrings of a beginning. The beginning of an entrepreneurial dream. Let the journey begin!
